Triple Shimano

Is this a good bike for me?
Trek 1000 Road/Sport bike in great condition for sale. 56 cm. Alpha aluminum frame. Shimano Sora front/rear derailleur. Shimano SR Suntour 52/42 triple chain ring. Shimano ultralight rims. NEW Hutchinson Kevlar tires. Shimano SPD compatible clipless pedals.
I'm just starting out with road biking (this would be my first bike) I have already made sure its the right size. I would like to know if this is a good bike because i really don't want to spend a fortune on a bike.
That's a pretty good bike. I have the upgraded model with 105/ultegra components and I love it. pretty much the same frame, just lighter components. If you end up riding hardcore you'll end up buying carbon in 2-3 years anyway, but if you're just getting started with it, that should more than fit your needs.
Be careful with the clipless pedals. Practice a lot on grass before trying it out on the road. You WILL fall the first few times you use them, and it's way better to be on grass going slow than on the street in an emergency braking situation.

Choosing the right chainset
Chainsets
As a general rule in building bikes, you cannot just mix and match parts. For example, the Japanese-made Shimano crank will not work with a Campagnolo bracket. It is best to stick to one manufacturer to source all your bike parts.
Bike chainsets are the motors of your bike. They help redistribute your muscle energy to the wheels of the bike, so you can move forward as you bear the weight of the bike. The biggest factor that one should consider in buying bike chainsets is energy efficiency. Chainsets should be designed in a way to get your bike to run as fast as possible with minimal muscle energy.Bike chainsets are the motors of your bike. Chainrings are usually made of aluminium, although smaller chainrings are made of steel to reduce the wear and tear. The chainrings are paired with different numbers of teeth depending on the intended use of the bike. Compact bikes usually have a 34/50 tooth combination, which means that the rear chainring has 34 teeth and the pedal chainring has 50 teeth. Conventional road bikes have a 39/53 combination, and road triple bikes usually have a 30/40/50 combination. The number of teeth determines how much the bike can force its way through different surfaces and steepness.

jees louise, what a total fred!
Funny enough it's the low speed riding that is more dangerous than the high speed riding. That's where you get retarded falls.
Can I press a button and order a pizza?
at 0minute 2:54 .. what is the comment about Sweden . quote ->”you dont get what ? in sweden of all places” . i hope your not poking jokes about us here in SWEDEN:
Here is the Shimano web site, mouse over the products then over road bikes. The highest quality is at the top, you can click on the group set you want to look at. Most of the time it will be the shifters, brake levers and the front and rear derailleurs in that group. Usually there will be a different wheel set and brake calipers. You can buy packages that contain the whole group set. You have to look at the manufacturers spec's to see what is actually on the bike.
