Top Tube
How is a mtb top tube measured?
On the geometry of a mountain bike how is the tube measured? The top tube connects to the head tube and seat tube at an angle. Is the measurement of that tube made from the center of the dead tube to the center of the seat tube along the angle? or is it measured in a straight line? By straight line i mean to find the actual length of the top tube would you have to use triangle trig?
There are actually 2 answers to your question. The actual length of the top tube is measured parallel to the tube from the center of head tube to center of seat tube. This is used only for machining the tube to the correct length.
The cockpit length is measured parallel to the GROUND, from center of head tube to center of set tube.
