Old takara bike shifter help?
I have a pretty old takara road bike. It has the shifters that are kind of like in the middle off of the stem (i think it's called, basically in between your knees when you're pedaling.) and whenever i go down to the lower gears, the shifter starts slowly going up and it basically shifts automatically. it gets really annoying when i'm trying to climb hills because i have to like hold it down. is it possibly that i just have to tighten something to fix this?

except they're higher up in front of the stem
You have friction shifters. Take the D ring in the center of the shifter and turn it in a little to provide a little more friction. You want a balance between staying where you place it and ease of movement.
