Do you think making a young captain but keeping an experienced team would work?

Like in South Africa's case, they made Graeme Smith the captain (few years back) when they still had many greats in the team. Takes pressure off of them?
Or is it necessary to push out the seniors if you're making a young captian?
Is that an ego issue!!

I think a young captain, with an experienced team around him, could struggle if he does not have their respect.
He would gain their respect firstly if he is a fantastic player, and secondly if his team if winning.
When Smith took over as South African captain, the Proteas were going through a transitional phase. Some experienced players had retired, or were on the brink of doing so. Others were just reaching their prime. There were also a lot of new players coming into the squad. Smith also had the respect of all the team due to his forceful personality, and his run scoring. It was also made clear to the team that Smith's appointment was a fresh start for the team, after all the problems of the latter days of Cronje's leadership, that haunted Shaun Pollock's captaincy.

I think it is generally better for a new captain, whether young or older, to develop the team that he wants around him. If players aren't responding, whether experienced or not, they should be jettisoned. It is a team game, but someone has to be in charge.

If we look at the current situation in India, Dhoni is being touted for the Test captaincy, and already holds the ODI at T20 stewardship. The limited overs teams are packed with young players, whilst the Test team has the experienced ones. The Indian selectors seem to be reluctant to give Dhoni control of the Test team, presumably as their fear he would not be respected by the experienced players.

I think this is more to do with Dhoni's ego than his age. There are clearly personality clashes between him and one or two of the senior players.

If someone has the right leadership abilities, they would be able to lead a team, even if they were younger than all the other players. It all really depends on the personality of the captain, and of his senior players. Some senior players will not respect any captain, especially if they have been captain themselves in the past, and still harbour resentment at their own ousting, and a desire to regain the position for themselves.

Leon smith's team- Halfords- craig dont leave!!

Would you rather Tony Mowbray or Walter Smith manage your team?

And why?
Aye Forza, and out of the title race.

I asked a Q the other day about this. I wouldn't want Walter to manage Celtic because he wouldn't have the same passion he does for Rangers, but someone like him who understands the club and the fans, and more importantly, FOOTBALL! Mowbray just doesn't have that!
