If we followed the Food Guide Pyramid's daily requirements, wouldn't we all be huge?
I doubt it. The food pyramid has been around for a LONG time, and it's only fairly recently that the US has developed such a serious weight problem.
The problem isn't with the food pyramid--it's with the portion sizes. 30 years ago, a McDonald's hamburger was practically microscopic compared with their hamburgers today. Burger King offering a TRIPLE cheeseburger? People eating 3 eggs, 4 strips of bacon and two slices of toast for breakfast instead of one egg, one slice of toast and some fresh fruit. THOSE are the problems--not the food pyramid.
