Why does my car's RPMs go up, and i dont accelerate, when I put the pedal to the floor (standard trans.)?

I recently had the clutch "replaced" in my '93 Mazda Miata. I say "replaced" because I'm wondering if it was even done and that the original problem wasnt the clutch going bad at all, like I originally thought, but was the Master or Slave cylinder for the clutch going bad. But right now, If I'm driving, If I really give it some gas, the RPMs will go up a lot and there will be almost no acceleration. Could that also be a sign of master and slave cylinder gone bad?

just the oppisit.. the clutch disc is badly worn

Blazin Pedals - February 18th, 2010 - Trans Am Series at Atlanta

Ford focus with auto.trans, car vibrates a bit when brake pedal is release when engine temp. is at normal.??

when the engine is at normal operating temp, and im standing at a light, once i release the brake, the car feels like its about to turn off...it did already about 3 times...what could b wrong?

The brakes are assisted by vaccuum, if there is an issue with the brake booster, which is a big round thing behind the master cylinder, it could cause a stumble in idle when brakes are released. Start there. Good Luck.

  • Stay far away from this car.
The first warning sign is "oil was thick and kinda gunky". This points to an engine full of sludge. Adding evidence for this is the 12-14 MPG (ridiculous, the car should get more like 20), and the very sluggish acceleration.
No doubt about it, this car has an engine full of oil sludge. Sludge is a thick buildup that causes all kinds of problems, especially the ones this car has, and it's definitely not normal. Think of it as atherosclerosis for your car. It's usually caused by not changing the oil often enough, but once the oil "appears thick and gunky," the damage is done, and the engine must be completely rebuilt ($4-6000).
The real nail in the coffin is that those 1.8T's from 1997-2004 are famous for this problem. You have to ask yourself why somebody sold it…and shame on this dealer for trying to pass off this car to somebody unsuspecting!
Have a look at the wikipedia article below and for god's sake don't go near the car again. Sorry to burst the bubble :(
