Have you tried calling the setPreferredSize(Dimension preferredSize) method on the JTable? Often when I come across this kind of problem I find it helps to search the Class hierarchy in the java documentation. First I would look for any methods in JTable that might be relevant (it also helps to block fill containers and panels etc with different colors so that you can see how much of the container element they fill). Then search the parent class (in the case JComponent) and so on… If that doesn't help then you can try searching the container classes, in the case scrollPane first and then JPanel. Of course you can often skip all that by searching google for solutions. But these are the basic steps that Java programmers must go through when building applications. Even experienced programmers must frequently search google and the documentation.
