what's the lockout mechanism on the fork of my bike useful for?
i have a haro v4 '07 model with a lockout mechanism on the fork.
It's to reduce the shock use for uphill climbs and increased speeds. It's a rider's preference.

haro v4 or trek 4300 (both disc)?
please help me decide which bike to buy. i am down to these two after a month of gruelling search.
i think my choices are the best in the price range and i have yet to choose the better.

James, you will be happier in the long run with the Trek. I don't own one but my son does. We both have the same components, but I wound up with the squeaks and creaks. The noises you can't (or the bike shop for that matter) seem to be able to find. The stuff that drives you nuts.
He runs over all kinds of stuff that I am cautious about, and says "Dad -- it can take it". Buy the Trek next week.
