what are the best brakes to buy for a bmx? (Eastern Metalhead 2008)?
i bought a eastern bike it is a metalhead 2008. it has no brakes and i need some. what are the best brakes to buy for it?

I think that bike came with brakes, so apparently someone took them off. But you should have brazed-on guides on the frame and U-brake bosses on the frame near the rear wheel. If you want one back brake, which is what most guys are running, you'll need a lever, a set of U-brakes that fit the bosses (the metal posts) on your frame, and enough cable and ferrules to run the lines. If you are running a cable detangler, or gyro, then you'll need that plus the upper and lower gyro elements.
It's easier to just run a straight cable from the lever to the braze-on closet to the brake. You can just leave an extra long loop of cable in front of your bars if you want to do bar spins; you just have to spin back on the next one, if you don't have a gyro. This looks a little cleaner, plus you won't hit your knees on the gyro, which can hurt. The parts should cost about: $20 for a Tektro brake lever; $20-30 for a decent U-brake (or you may be able to mount a caliper brake for about the same amount); $10 for cable housing; $7 or $8 for a cable inner wire; $6 or $7 for a brake straddle and puller (the part that connects the arms of the U-brakes to the cable); $7-10 for brake shoes. If you pay the shop to do it, it will probably cost about $20-25 in labor. As you can see, the parts can add up in $$, but for under a hundred dollars you should be good to go. If you have a local swap meet, you can usually buy the parts for less. You can also find them on the internet, but it's usually better to use your local shop, as they will help you get the right parts and, if something doesn't work, you can return it. Hope this helps.
