Cranks Bikes
I have a older Raleigh Japanese frame with 175mm vuelta cranks. For square taper what siz do I need?
Yeh so this is for a bike obviously but I don't know much about bikes so explain it to me like I'm 10. Please and thankyou.
What is broken? I would suggest getting a new bottom bracket(BB) and crank arms. It's amazing how much nicer even a cheap $90 BB & cranks feel. Then you loose the bad square taper BB all together. Square taper stuff is notoriously sqeeky and creaky. But with a Japanese frame the BB might be metric threads so this might not work, as most BB are english threads. Take it down to the local bike shop and see what they say.
The Race Face Cranks have an extenal BB the ‘EXI interface’ so they are made to fit most bikes regardless of BB width.

Mountain Biking Maintenance and Repair : Install Square Taper Cranks on a Mountain Bike
I cant get the cranks off my bike?
I cant get the first bolt out to remove the chain ring side crank. Do they all go in the same direction? I have been trying in a counter clockwise direction and it wont budge. I have a Specialized FSR if that makes a difference.

Crank bolts are one of the highest torque items on a bike. You'll be best using a longer lever (such as a 12-in socket wrench) if you are wrestling it with something smaller.
