What size cranks will fit the standard English bottom bracket?


I am turning a racing bike into a "fixie" or fixed wheel bike.

I have just found a bike frame that i really like. The description on the frame says it has "standard English bottom bracket threads".

I don't know where to purchase this bottom bracket or what size cranks will fit it.

Any help with links to websites featuring either bottom bracket or cranks that i can purchase would be appreciated.

Also, i dont know how to fit a bottom bracket and whether i can aactually do this myself. Any help with this would also be appreciated!

how do i get a spanish crank out of a spanish bottom bracket?


i have a frame that has nothing on it accept for the crank, that is the only thing on it! does anyone know how to get it out?

It is a three piece crank remover, available at most bike shops.

then you will need a bottom bracket tool.

take to your local bike shop (during the non busy time) show frame, and say
"please sell me the tools to take this apart, and tell me what the steps are"

    There are 2 important things about fit which is important to know about the old style bottom brackets.

    1 Thread type. There are 2, English and Italian/European. They are different and not compatible.

    2 The axle length. Each chainset will have a recommended axle length. The length will ensure that the inner ring runs close to chainstay, but not close enough to rub, thus keeping the chain angle to the cogs optimum. Getting the right length is very important.

    Each manufacturers bottom bracket cups will have different means of removal and even the same manufacturer will have different kinds of removal methods for different models of bottom bracket. So you need to discover and buy the right tools.

    Cost to change bottom bracket in UK £10 to £15

    I suggest you [make your This guy just removed the training wheels, fenders, chain guard, pedals, crank, bottom bracket bearings, and chain. And made a few other little mods for it to fit his kid better. The only thing he bought was a cheap bike off craigslist.
