Chunk Sprocket
Friend broke chain on 03 gsxr 600 and.....?
My Co-Worker broke the chain on my 03 gixxer and it smashed my sprocket cover and my water pump. My problem is that the place where the screws go into the engine cover were striped and one screw ripped a chunk out of the engine cover. I already ordered a new sprocket cover and water pump but how do I go about fixing the lower engine cover? Do I need a whole new engine? Thanks for any help.
P.S. Do you think my co-worker should help pay for it since he was ridding it?
It was the anti freeze leaking from the water pump.

I guess there's a couple of things you could try. How big is the chunk the screw took out? For smaller things, JB Weld is great stuff. You could either use it to glue the piece back in or to fill the hole. Hopefully the screw just held something like an outside cover and wasn't highly stressed.
The other thing would be to remove the gas tank and drain the oil and carbs, then take the bike to someone who can heli arc aluminum. Lay the bike on it's side, put the piece in place and have them heli arc it on the spot It would sure save tearing the engine down and taking the piece itself in for repair. This would certainly be the way to go if the screw is stressed a lot. I've had a good heli arc man fix a crack in an AC evaporator and that stuff isn't any thicker than the cardboard on a cereal box. So the right person should be able to fix it.
As far as the stripped holes, if it's non vital, slip a little piece of wire into the hole and reinsert the screw. If it's more highly stressed, try tapping the hole slightly bigger to a SAE size and use a SAE bolt. Or, have the heli arc guy fill the hole, drill and tap it out again.
