Bmx Headset
Integrated Headsets for BMX?
i have a new headset and new forks, and the headset came with a top cap, two bearings and two cups. I put the top cup and bearings in, but i cannot fit the cup for the bottom because the forks get wider at the bottom, so i just run bearing and cups on the top and just bearings on the bottom.
Whenever i do a jump i hear a thunk, and i think it may damage the bottom bearings. What do you think?
Right, i've fitted the race onto the bottom of the forks, but i still hear a thunk when i do a hop or mostly when i 180.
I did the pressure bolt up as tight as it goes. Does the thunking matter?
I think it might be coming from the headset but not quite sure.
Depending on what type of integrated headset you have, you may have to press that lower bearing on the fork tube just as you would a crown race.....or you may have a crown race. Either way, they need to be pressed onto the fork. It's an interference fit. You can take a section of 1-1/4" grey plastic electrical conduit and tap the bearing/race onto the fork that way, or you can take it to a well-stocked bike shop that has a race press.
There are several kinds of integrated headsets/frames out there....are you positive you got a headset that's compatible with your frame? I'm not that savvy on the bmx brands, but I know there are at least 2 or 3 that use a 36° bearing instead of the more-standard 45° setup. If you look on the bearing, it should say something like 36/45 or 36/36. Gotta make sure you have the right one. Other than that, and pressing the bearing or race onto the fork, the rest is just adjustment with the top cap and then tightening the stem bolts.
Don't run a loose headset....ESPECIALLY with an integrated headtube!!! Frames are expensive to replace and even though you've probalby got a steel frame, they can still be damaged and ruin the cup surfaces....or at least the headset bearings. If you hear clunking, get it set up right before you do any more air tricks.
Hope this helps.....and also, you can learn a little more or get some semi-decent instructions for these headsets in the "repair help" section of www.parktool.com Some mfr's websites have good instructions, too.....some refuse to publish them because they're afraid of lawsuits and prefer people to let a bike shop install the headset, since it IS a pretty vital part of keeping a bike together and you not ending up like roadkill on the concrete.

bmx big help needed crank threaded brake wnt run wheel making noise?
well my custom bmx i got bb fitted and when i ocllected he said my cranks are threaded thje pedal wouldont tighten but it can hold my hole body wait i tryyed pulling out it wouldont he also said the headset might not be for right bmx why dose this matter ? also there is nothing to hold brake and wheel making clicking when i aint pedaling
is it not moving because the wheel is stuck on the bars? and the clicking is completely normal is so if you ride downhill you don't have to move your legs the sprockets wont move or the chain or the pedals but the wheel will
I can only give you information on the headsets you mention since your links are bad…you put parenthesis around the links.
First, an "aheadset" is a brand. This refers to a type of headset that uses a fork that has no threads on the fork steerer. Almost every bike you can think of now has a fork with a threadless steerer except for a couple that are sold in department stores.
An "aheadset" can be 3 different types- zero stack, integrated, or external. NONE OF THESE ARE INTERCHANGABLE. Integrated headsets (since you mentioned it) allow the bearings to mount directly inside the head tube of the frame without any races. The problem is that there are 10 or 15 different sizes of integrated headsets- and these are also not interchangable. In order to determine the correct headset you need to know the measurements of the inside of the head tube.
Zero stack headsets are similar to integrated versions except a race has to be pressed into the frame first. External headsets also use bearing cups that are pressed into the headtube and extend above and below the frame causing a "stack height".
The best thing to do is ask the seller of the frame for suggestions on which headset to use.
