Bmx Hamilton How to paint my bmx rims? would it look good?pic of my bike!?
Hey well im not much of a painter, but god i would love to paint my black bmx rims WHITE! i want white pedals, white stem and white RIMS!
so im buying a shadow stem white and some animal hamilton pedals white... but the rims.. i have good rims.
Alianation 440 front rim
Alianation Delinquant back rim.
so how do i paint them? should i take the hole rim apart and paint the rim alone, or tape the spokes and cover the hub and tire and simply spray paint like that???
what about the chain/freewheel and hub on the back tire? (front tire should be ok)
Please any help would be greatly apreciated seing im not a ''painter'' lol. what paint should i use? or any paint? how and etc...
Very sweet lookin ride! but first of all i noticed u have removed the brakes! i STRONGLY recommend u have at least the back brakes!! That having been said, u can paint the rims. First take the rims off ur bike, then remove ALL the rubber from them. Don't disassemble the spokes from the rim unless ur xperienced at lacing spokes!! Next u will need 2 prep the rims 2 receive an hold paint. 2 do that u will need 2 ‘scuff’ the metal with fine steel wool. Do this until the metal has a dull look. This is important 4 the paint 2 adhere an remain on. Next, clean the rims [do this OUTDOORS!] using 97% rubbing alcohol {acetone is better, but dangerous 2 handle} use cotton rags till no more residue wipes off. IMPORTANT: From now on DON'T touch the metal with ur hands, or get oil on the rims, or the paint wont stick! Then using the blue painters tape, cover the nipples and spokes up about 4 or so inches. U shouldn’t need 2 tape much else, its not like ur gonna dip the rim in the paint!! Id also suggest taping the area where the break pads touch the rims. {Notice that there isn’t n e paint there already!} Now ur ready 4 paint! Select the colour of ur choice and buy a hi-quality brand. [such as Rustoleum®] Id recommend using a ‘flat’ rather than ‘gloss’, but that’s my opinion. Follow the instructions on the rattle can, an use several light coats. Don't try 2 put on a heavy coat! IMPORTANT!! DO THE PAINTING OUTSIDE ONLY!!! Now, after ur satisfied with the painting, leave the rim in the sun 4 several days at least {or more} 2 allow the paint 2 fully dry. –BE PATIENT AND ALLOW THE PAINT 2 DRY!!! PAINTING HINT: 2 easily hold the rim during painting, use an old front fork braced in something like a vice. As far as the colour ud like, its all a matter of personal choice! If u like it, isn’t that what matters??!! U also can buy different coloured tires as well!! let me kno how it turns out, id love 2 c it!!! Now, that’s the do-it-yourself method. If u kno someone who owns an auto body shop, an u can get them 2 spray paint [its called “shoot”] using automotive paint, an do it inexpensively, this will b better, an have higher adhesive properties. The reason is that unlike rattle can paint, auto paints ar mixed at the time of usage with a special hardener, and will be more resilient 2 scratching an wear.
