I found a Specialized 415 BMX frame in the trash. Is it worth putting 200$ into buying parts and fixing it up?

All the parts on Ebay.com would cost about $200.

I am sanding down the frame and will use Bondo on the parts that are scratched. I want to repaint it and make it look really slick. I'm buying all parts that match. I'm thinking a baby blue/gray/white color scheme.

My main concern is putting 200 dollars into a frame that is MSRP worth only 250 maybe.

Check the frame for damage first. If you have a wheelset, then put it on and see how she rolls. Look at the welds and tubing for cracking, rust, impact, etc. Make sure that frame was thrown away on accident. Remember that you have $200 in parts, but what about bike tools, grease, and paint supplies? Painting a bike alone costs around $60 if done right. First of all, never sand a bike frame. Go to home depot and find a liquid paint stripper. Plenty of forums tell you how to strip a bike this way, so i wont get into detail. High grit sandpaper, mineral spirits, primer, paint, and clear coat will eventually add up to a lot of money. Ask yourself if its worth it, remember that for the cost of painting the bike, you could buy a $60 frame for the same cost. Its up to you to be the judge, but you might be better off reselling the frame for $10 on craigslist.
