I bought a Giant OCR2 last year (in may) and put about 3000 miles on it. I just replaced it with the Giant TCR Advanced.
The OCR2 would have been a great bike for me if I didn't ride as much. The components (and price) are more in line with a weekend rider that does a few training rides before a longer day /weekend ride. my local mechanic (after about the 5th time i was in getting work done) advised that for the amount of riding I do, a bike with higher end components would last a lot longer (and be a lot more comfortable).
We just bought a bike for my gf and given she rides about as much as me, we didn't look at anything cheaper than $1800 or so. Moving into a better frame (for comfort) and better components (105/ultegra) will make it last considerably longer.
All in all, the OCR2 was a great starter bike, but if you're really serious about riding (100+ miles/week) I would recommend upgrading into Giant's Alliance series (carbon/aluminum frame) with 105 and/or Ultegra components.

The Response Sport combines the perfect blend of hardtail performance with rugged utility to form the ideal hardtail all-purpose trail bike. The Response Sport is built up around a frame that features our Strongbox top and down tubes and heat-treated 6061 T-6 aluminum. If a solid and reliable hardtail all mountain bike is what you are after, choose the disc brake-equipped Response Sport.
It may seem shocking to some, but there are still several situations where you're better off on a hardtail than a full-suspension mountain bike, such as when riding to class, dirt jumping, riding on smoother trails, or just cruising around the neighborhood. Enter the Diamondback Response Sport mountain bike, which combines the perfect blend of hardtail performance with rugged utility. The Response Sport--which shares the same frame and several of the components of the pricier Response Comp--is equipped with an aluminum all-mountain hardtail frame with a strongbox top tube, a Spinner Edge 120mm suspension fork, eight-speed trigger shifters, Kenda Klaw XT 2.0 tires, and a WTB Pure V sport saddle. The Response Sport also offers several upgrades from the base-model Response, including an SRAM ISO-Flow crank set with replaceable chain rings, Hayes mechanical disc brakes, and Weinmann double-wall rims.

The Diamondback Response Sport is a very good value in a hardtail mountain bike as you are getting a relatively high end frame design with mid range components. The modified top tube design is a strengthen design borrowed from higher end Diamondback models and similar to some Specialized bikes.
The only catch is that the shift levers and front caliper are not up to the same quality as the rest of the package. The platform pedals are OK for around town and park trails, but you may want to upgrade them for serious single track riding.
I combined this with a top quality suspension seatpost which I find to be the optimum combination of lighter weight and control with some softening of the roughest bumps. The Diamondback site and some retailers have a more complete description of which frame size is most appropriate for your height. The advantage of buying from Amazon is that you can readily get XS, S or XL frame sizes rather than having to settle for Medium or Large at a local shop or sporting goods box store.
The bike arrives mostly assembled, but plan to spend a full Saturday afternoon to correctly reset the derailer travel limits and align the front caliper if you do not take it to a local shop for a professional tune up.

bike is really nice for the money. Bought about a year ago for over 500, and it is worth every penny. Frame is super strong, components are definitely entry level, but are very serviceable.
