How do I take the gyro rig off my bmx bike?
I have an oryg gyro rig on my BMX bike and I was wondering how to uninstall it. Also can you include any details, such as will i need a new cassette/headset or anything?
You will not need to purchase any new parts to take off your Gyro, but you may need to purchase some spacers (plastic rings that fit over your forks steerer tube). These will fill the space that your Gyro used on your steerer tube. They only cost a dollar each, or so, and come in many sizes.
You will need to remove the cables from the gyro, upper and lower. (very small allan key required) You may aswel remove the gyro tabs on the head tube, too, if they are removeable. (small allan key required there, too)
Then loosen the stem and slide the bars off the bike, with stem attached. Slide the gyro off, and then replace it with your spacers, and put the stem back on.
Now is the tricky part. Look into you stem hole. You need to have no more than around 5mm gap between the top of the steerer tube and the top of the stem hole. This will be enough room to allow your compression bolt to clamp tight into your forks, without 'bottoming out' before it locks your whole front-end in. If there isn't 5mm, add or remove spacers as required. Spacers come in all different widths, so get a lot of smaller ones, rather than a couple of bigger ones.

What to look for in a good BMX shop
Where does one find a specialist BMX shop and what makes a good BMX shop? The first point to note is that although some very respected high street BMX shops operate in different locations across the country, these are sadly very few and far between. Unless one is lucky enough to live near such an outlet, the best bet is to seek out a specialist online BMX shop.
Ironically, the best online BMX shops will deliberately avoid having any high street presence at all, as this means that they can switch their resources away from expensive high street property rentals into securing more experienced staff and better BMX equipment.
Once a BMX shop has been found the next step is to check the range of stock they have to offer. The best shops will be able to supply BMX bikes and parts from top, BMX-renowned brand names such as Hoffman and Haro. They will also be able to offer BMX bikes in a range of sizes to suit all rider ages and heights.
Furthermore, any BMX shop worth its salt will not only be able to supply freestyle BMX bikes (the bikes BMX riders use to perform stunts and tricks), it will also be fully prepared to meet the specialist bike and accessory needs of those who participate in racing BMX (speed track cycling tournaments held up and down the country).
Finally, one of the most telling signs of a reputable BMX shop will be its ability not only to pass on cheap BMX deals for the benefit of the entry level market, but also to be able to use its strong relationship with suppliers to secure competitive deals on intermediate and advanced level bikes.
