Answer Sickle
do they test your donated blood for sickle cell trait before giving it to a patient?

i really want to know because the people said i was ok to donate but i want to make sure that it doesn't go into a person with sickle cell disease because i heard that my blood can't go into those patients. I also heard that because im part/mostly african american, my blood will help an african american patient the most.......so please answer this i really want to know, thanks in advance!!!

Yes….we do test your blood for sickle cell before transfusion. Any units testing positive for sickle cell will be quarantined and not transfused to a patient.

What's The Answer To The Pain And Lack Of Energy in Sickle Cell Anemia?

The recessive allele for sickle cell anemia is more prevalent in regions of Africa where malaria is....?

1. The recessive allele for sickle cell anemia is more prevalent in regions of Africa where malaria is prevalent, than it is in regions where there is no malaria. This is due to a:
a. heterozygous advantage
b. Founder Effect
c. frequency dependent selection
d. bottleneck effect
(please help im not sure about this answer. thank you)

A-people who possess the recessive allele experience significantly reduced (some are almost immune) symptoms of malaria. So, those people go on to reproduce, whereas people with "perfect" red blood cells are completely susceptible when the mosquito injects the sporozoites.
